We're two days into potty training, and I've washed 8 pairs of underwear and thrown away one pair. I don't like being wasteful like that, but unless someone wants to volunteer to come over and wash out poopy underwear for me, I'm tossing them. It's just waaaaaayyyyy too disgusting.
I was hoping there would be fewer accidents today, but I'm not getting discouraged yet. We've gotta stick with this, and I know he'll get there. And he was actually doing pretty well today until we had friends over for a playdate this afternoon, and he had an accident during the playdate and right after. I think it was the combination of all the excitement/distractions of the playdate, plus the fact that he refused to nap today. Not a good recipe for potty training success.
Anyway, on to day 3.....
It was a miserable day here today - started out with sleet, and then turned to rain, so the roads were just full of slush. We braved the cold rain to get out to the gym this morning, but that was it for us - we stayed in after that.
Dante apparently fell down at the gym and fell on a plastic dinosaur, and while we were eating lunch, he and Gabe had one of the funniest conversations I've ever heard, all about The Dinosaur Incident. I wish I had videotaped it, because I can't remember a lot of it now, but it was kind of like a "Who's on first?" routine. Gabe kept asking "what dinosaurs was it?" and Dante kept saying "No, it was just ONE dinosaur, Gabe!" and then Gabe asked if it was a real dinosaur, and Dante replied "No, it was just ONE dinosaur, Gabe!" And then Gabe was asking whose dinosaur it was, and if it was brown, and if it talked to him and scared him, and Dante replied "No, it was just ONE, TWO, THREE dinosaurs, Gabe!"
I'm sure it doesn't sound nearly as funny when I recap it that way as it did when it was happening, but I was practically falling off my chair, I was laughing so hard. I think what's funniest is that they have such earnest, serious discussions over such small things. It's so funny, and so unbelievably cute.
The playdate this afternoon went ok. We haven't been to or hosted a playdate in a while, and I think Gabe was a little overwhelmed, and he really lost it when everyone first got here. He was freaking out because the little kids were taking apart the train tracks on the train table, and I tried to explain to him that it was ok, and that I'd put them back together after everyone left, but he continued to freak out, so I had to bring him upstairs so he could cool down and pull himself together. He calmed down after that, but it's just so frustrating and disappointing when he acts like that.
And since Dante hadn't taken a nap, he was in rare form, too. He did ok, but he was just being extra loud (and seeing as how he's already a very loud child, that's saying something), and toward the end of the playdate, as everyone was leaving, he let out a blood-curdling scream and threw a toy in the air.
I think we're going to get banned from playdates one of these days.
Seriously, they really don't usually behave like that, but I hate it when they do. It's embarrassing and upsetting and makes the whole experience nowhere near as fun as it should be.
It was just a long day, and I'm tired, and looking forward to getting to bed, and hoping that they're better behaved the next time we go to a playdate!

If you keep to your plan, I'm sure the potty training will turn the corner soon and then you won't have to change a diaper ever again.
I can't wait for that day with our youngest - especially after the one I changed last night. Yuck!
