I could write a whole post about everything I have to be thankful for, but instead, I'll show you -
And of course every holiday with toddlers inevitably ends with overtired, overstimulated children who vacillate between pure exhiliration and complete crabbiness. I call this Gabe's "I'm tired and I ate too much turkey" pose.
The day was fabulous. Gabe was especially proud of our homemade placemats and our glittery pinecones, which made the centerpiece for the table. And he made sure to tell everyone that he helped me make the apple pie.
They both ate a huge amount of food, and Gabe was especially fond of the turkey and cranberry sauce. He was even eating cranberry sauce and turkey together - in the same mouthful - which is a huge breakthrough for the child who usually insists that none of his food touches any of the other food on his plate.
Dessert was a huge hit, too - no surprise there. Gabe's favorite was the pumpkin cheesecake. Who knew he loved cheesecake? Then again, what's not to love?
Before we ate, I asked Gabe what he was thankful for, and what made him happy. He thought for a minute, and then said "Being friends." A very sweet sentiment, I think : )
They loved watching the parade this morning, and we also even had time to take them out for a quick stroll around the neighborhood - something we definitely wanted to do, seeing as how the weather was unusually warm, with temps up in the 60s.
All in all, a wonderful Thanksgiving with family. As we were putting them to bed tonight, I was getting ready to go downstairs, and Gabe said "Happy Thanksgiving, Mommy!" He loves his holidays : )
Two last things that I need to brag about - after everyone left, we were all playing with Gabe's alphabet puzzle in the living room, and Dante picked up the letter "q" and said "q." Then he picked up the letter "o," and said "oh." Then he picked up the letter "b," and I said "That's the letter b. What is b for?" And he lifted up his shirt and pointed to his belly. And at dinner, he was pointing to his sippy cup, which has a picture of Tow Mater from the movie Cars on it, and it also says "Tow Mater" under it, and he pointed to the letters and said "t, o."
And after dinner, he told us he had to pee, so we took him to the potty and he peed. (I am already calculating all the money we're going to be saving when we don't have to buy diapers anymore.) But then we let him run around diaper-free for a few minutes, and he promptly pooped on the kitchen floor. You win some, you lose some.
But aside from the poop on the floor, it was everything Thanksgiving should be.
Love the pictures!! I am glad you guys had a good day! Sorry about the poop though. UGH. LOL

I dunno. Poop on the floor is like icing on the cake :-)
