Picked up my race number today, and I'm about to make a new playlist for tomorrow - one that's just under 26 minutes long. Hopefully that will be long enough : )
26:47 is the time to beat. We'll see if I can do it...... Weather looks good. Chilly, but I think the rain (and snow!) is going to hold off until later in the afternoon. And I'm fine with chilly weather - I enjoy running when it's cold. Much better than running in the heat, anyway.
I am SO excited for this race! It's only been a little over a month since I did the half, but it feels like it's been soooo long. It feels weird that I haven't run all week, but I'm not concerned - I think it might actually work in my favor.
I tried to go swimming today - twice - but it just didn't happen. The first time I tried was at 7:10 this morning. They have all 5 lanes open for lap swim from 7 - 8:30, and I figured it would be great to go and swim and get my workout out of the way early. But just as I was about to head into the showers to rinse off before getting in the pool, another woman was just getting out of the shower and told me that there was no lifeguard, so the pool wasn't open. Very annoying.
So then I tried to go back again at lunchtime, when all 5 lanes were open for lap swim again, but this time every single lane was occupied by two swimmers. Yes, I could have gone in and been the third person in one of those lanes, but I really don't like sharing a lane with two other people, so I just skipped it. I'm bummed - I was really looking forward to swimming today, and in the end, I didn't get any workout in at all.
The boys both got haircuts today. It was Dante's first one ever. I can't adequately describe the scene in writing, and unfortunately we didn't get any video clips, but I think the pictures paint a pretty good picture of how things went down -
It was worth all the tears, and having to bribe them both with donuts, because they look even more adorable now.
Dante looks like such a big boy. Sigh. I knew he would once he got his first haircut, which is why we put it off as long as possible. But it had to be done, so we did it. We got a cute little certificate with a lock of his hair, just like we did for Gabe's first haircut - which, although it was almost three years ago, seems like it was just yesterday....
And here is what you get when you ask a 3 1/2-year-old to smile for you -
When we made the handprint turkeys the other day, I was telling the boys that turkeys say "gobble, gobble," and Dante thought that was hysterical. And now whenever he sees them hanging in the window he says "bobble, bobble."
He can't say any "c" or "g" sounds, so he substitutes other letters that he can say. So when he wants his cup, he says "pup."
I'm surprised that he hasn't tried to say "Gabe" yet, and hasn't even come up with any made-up name for Gabe, either. I thought for sure that would be one of the first things he said.
He did say "Help please" today, though. I think that counts as his first sentence! He also now says "chilly" when he's cold.
No matter what food we put in front of Dante, he now leans over and very carefully blows on it, and says "hot." We could give him a bowl of ice cream, and he'd blow on it to cool it off. He's a funny little kid.
The other day they were in Gabe's room playing while I was down the hall in our room, and I heard them yelling, so I went down to see what was going on, and they were sitting there fighting over a toy and taking turns hitting each other (at least they take turns at something, right?). Gabe would yell "No! and hit Dante, and Dante would scream and hit Gabe right back. I can only imagine how many more times I will see that scene played out over the course of my life......
In closing - Tonight at dinner, Gabe was playing with his fork and making all sorts of goofy noises, and just generally not using very good table manners, so Scott was telling him to stop what he was doing and eat nicely. And Gabe got rather annoyed, and said "No, Daddy. Stop saying that. I'm eating; you're distracting me."
