I was feeling lazy this morning, and didn't jump in the shower right after my run, so when I took the boys outside to play before lunch, I was still wearing my running clothes, and Gabe looked at me and said "Where are we going, Mommy?" So I told him we were going to go outside to play. He answered "Are you wearing that shirt? You can't wear that shirt, Mommy. That's just for running." I wore it anyway. Hopefully he wasn't too embarrassed to be seen with me.
It's a good thing he's such a fashion maven, though, because Dante could use some help in that area -
Gabe also asked me, when I walked in the door right after my run, "Did you have a nice time on your run, Mommy?" And he really seemed interested in my answer, which I thought was very sweet.
Last night at dinner, the boys launched into a rousing rendition of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." It's so funny to hear them singing together. Dante only sings every third or fourth word, and he is completely and utterly tone deaf. We always laugh about how NOBODY in Scott's family can even come close to carrying a tune, and when we celebrate someone's birthday with them, it sounds like they're singing a funeral dirge. And it appears that Dante has inherited this lack of musical talent. So listening to him sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" sounds like someone groaning in pain "row......boat......stream......dream" It's still music to my ears, though : )
Sometimes at dinner, Dante decides that he wants to sit at the end of the table, rather than on the side, where we usually keep his chair. And since we have tile floors in our kitchen, he's able to grab onto the table and slide his chair most of the way over there. It's pretty funny to watch - he grabs hold of the table, says "here, here," and pushes and nudges his way over there.
They were both exhausted tonight. Dante refused to nap today. I tried the crib, and he wasn't having it. I tried Gabe's bed, and he kept getting out. I tried the crib again, and he played and yelled and occasionally cried for about half an hour, and then I finally just went and got him and brought him downstairs. I know he's not ready to give up his nap yet, but I guess we're entering that phase where he sometimes has days where he doesn't nap. I wasn't really ready for that phase yet, but I don't think I have any say in the matter.
He isn't a total mess when he doesn't nap, but he does get a bit whiny and cranky right around dinnertime, which is rough. And Gabe was really tired today, too, but I don't know why. He came in to our room at 6am this morning, but I suspect he was up earlier than that, based on how exhausted he was this afternoon. Either that, or he's coming down with something. Hopefully he was just tired.
We spent a lot of time outside again today. An hour this morning playing in the yard, and another hour or so at the park this afternoon. I'm loving the warmer temps - the fresh air is doing wonders for all of us.
Dante had Early Intervention this morning, and she really didn't do much besides tell me how impressed she was with his progress. She said she'll continue to come out once a month just to check in, and when he's 31 months old (one year after we started services), they'll do another evaluation, and based on how well he's speaking already, they'll likely discharge him at that point. So, yay Dante!!!!
And yay for me, too, because I had the most fantastic, fabulous, wonderful run this morning. I was planning on 6 or 7 miles, and although I've been keeping my long runs around a nice, slow 9:30 pace, I wanted to go a little faster today. I wanted to see if I could keep a sub-9-minute-mile pace for the whole run, and how it would feel if I did.
Well, the answers to those questions are - Yes, I can in fact keep an average 8:23 pace for 7 miles; and it felt awesome! Not effortless, but not a struggle, either. I was extremely pleased with my splits - 8:39, 8:23, 8:17, 8:29, 8:36, 7:52, 8:27. Nice and speedy, and nice and consistent, too.
It was a beautiful morning - just a bit chilly, and the sun was coming up over the trees, and as I was finishing up my run and heading down the main road that takes me back to my neighborhood, I saw the road stretching out in front of me and found myself wishing that it stretched out further and further. I felt like I could run forever.
I obviously can't run forever, but after this morning's run, I am feeling increasingly confident that I can run 13.1 miles in under 2 hours.
Your run times are awesome! I wish I was that fast.
