So after Gabe's middle-of-the-night wakeup Friday, we figured he'd sleep in on Saturday.
Nope.
But he DID sleep in on Sunday - until nearly 9am! We were getting a little worried about him, to tell you the truth!
He was also a completely different person Sunday. He was definitely really affected by those shots he got on Friday. He was whiney and miserable for most of the day Saturday, and I think slightly feverish again Saturday night. But after a super night's sleep, he woke up Sunday and the change in his behavior was absolutely amazing.
He's never been affected that much by the shots before, so I was kind of surprised. I wonder if it was just compounded by the fact that he had been so sick earlier in the week? Thankfully the effects were pretty short-lived, either way.
Even though he was whiney and cranky Saturday, they were both so adorable at the race. They were cheering and yelling as I ran by, and then after I finished we were standing by the finish line watching the rest of the runners come in, and Gabe was yelling "Go, racers, go!"
He also said he wanted to be a water boy, and hand out water to the racers. I thought that was pretty funny. Maybe someday I'll volunteer at a local race and take him with me - he'd probably really get a big kick out of it.
I mentioned Dante's haircut, and here's photographic evidence -

I know I'm biased, but is he cute or what?!
He cried and fussed, but he did slightly better than at his last haircut, and we'll take any improvement we can get in that area.
Even with his new haircut, he still feels the need to walk around wearing my headband all the time. And he's now started wearing it around his waist, like a belt. He even takes it to bed with him at naptime and bedtime. So now he's got the binky, the blanky, and the headband. Oh, and occasionally his Diego hat, too. He's quite the character, dragging all this stuff around with him.
We may have played the 'big kid' card a bit too much with Gabe, because now he's asking us to watch Star Wars and play video games, because, as he says "I'm a big kid now."
So now we have to explain to him that there are certain things that he has to be a big, big kid to do. It's all very confusing. And I can definitely understand why kids are in such a hurry to grow up.
We had a nice day today - park playdate this morning with the Moms club, and we had lunch there, too. It was a bit chilly, but not too bad, and it's just going to get warmer and warmer as the week goes on, so I'm looking forward to our two other park playdates on Thursday and Friday.
I even went so far as to put away all the sweaters and winter clothes today. Left out a few long-sleeved shirts, but all the heavy sweaters are gone.
And it was nice enough on Sunday that I got out for my first bike ride of the season - yay!!!!! I was only planning on going 10 miles or so, but I was having such a great ride, I went 16. Took me a little over 59 minutes, so I averaged 16mph. For my first ride of the season, I think that's pretty good.
My bike felt great, too. I never got it tuned up last year, and by the end of the season, I could really feel it. So after getting a tuneup a few weeks ago, it rides so much smoother. I could tell as soon as I started riding. Very glad I got that taken care of.
This morning was a nice, relaxed 4-mile run at about an 8:30 pace. Just wanted to get the blood flowing. My legs definitely felt sore from the bike ride - not used to that, since it's been 5 months since I last rode - and it was good to get moving and get everything warmed up.
Playdate here tomorrow morning, which should be fun. Not sure if we'll play outside or not, as the yard is pretty damp and muddy, but either way, it'll be fun.
I gave my oldest son a haircut, once. :-)
