No injuries for me, and nothing major for the boys, but there were several bumps, scrapes, and bruises today - more than the usual tally.
It started when we were getting into the car this morning, and Dante walked right into the open car door, banging his head on the edge of it. He settled down pretty quickly, but Gabe was very concerned, and had to climb over to Dante's side of the car so that he could kiss Dante's boo-boo.
Then, while at the gym, Gabe collided with another little boy and got a big bump on the side of his face. He wasn't hurt too bad, but he was pretty upset, and we had to make a special stop at the house to get his boo-boo buddy before we could proceed to the park.
At the park, they decided to "race" on the sidewalk that runs around the perimeter of the playground area, and it was really warm today, so I had them both in shorts, so it wasn't long before Dante fell down and scraped his knee. Another quick recovery, but man, we were racking up some serious boo-boos!
That was the last one that involved crying, thankfully. They both fell a few times while we played out in the driveway this afternoon, but both picked themselves up and dusted themselves off, and that was that. Dante actually took a pretty good dive right over the front of his ride-on truck, but it didn't seem to upset him in the least, and he definitely didn't get hurt. Whew!
We had a nice time at the park, and I actually met a mom there who just moved here from Pennsylvania, and has two little boys close to Gabe and Dante's age. I gave her all the info for the Moms club, and told her she should join. Hopefully she will - she was really nice, and Gabe had a great time playing with her son.
Ran a couple miles on the treadmill today at the gym. I wasn't really planning on it, but then I couldn't resist. I'm also going to go for the running club's Thursday night run tomorrow. I've been wanting to do this one for a while - Thursday nights are their biggest group run, and they sometimes have as many as 30 people show up. So I'm glad I'm finally getting the chance to go. It's tough for me, because the run starts at 6pm, and Scott usually works until 6. But tomorrow he's going to take a short lunch break so he can relieve me at 5:30, and I can head down to the beach. I plan on 5 or 6 miles - I'll see how I'm feeling.
Lost a toenail to the cause again. It's actually the same toenail I lost after the Hartford half, and although it grew back, it never seemed quite right, and was always getting bruised and banged up after my longer runs, so I had a feeling it would bite the dust after this race. Sandal season is just not the same anymore.....
I know I can't stop talking about how cute the boys have been playing together lately, but this is a really momentous thing for us. It's been a long time coming, and I am really reveling in it. It makes for some really funny moments, too, like this morning at the park when they decided to play hide-and-seek, and then both stood there and covered their eyes and started counting to 10.
They've also been really enjoying looking through Scott's motorcycle gear catalogs that come in the mail. He gets a couple of different ones, and they'll sit together poring over them, saying "wow!" and "cool!" Not sure how thrilled I am that they're enamored with motorcycles already, but Daddy has one, so it was bound to happen.....
In the midst of all the boo-boos we suffered today, there were a few band-aids applied, one of which was for Dante's scraped knee. But when I started to put the band-aid on his knee, he got all upset and insisted that I put it on his finger. I explained to him that it would make his boo-boo feel better if I put it on his knee, but he wouldn't hear it. So the kid with the scraped knee is wearing a band-aid on his finger. Go figure.
Also this morning - another vote for letting them work out some of their squabbles themselves - I was in our bedroom getting ready, and they were in Gabe's room playing with his castle set. All was going well, and I was thinking about how I was going to have to tell them what a great job they had done playing together, when I heard Dante start screeching. I knew he was just screeching because he was mad about something Gabe had done, so I didn't rush down there.
Instead, I waited. I figured I'd see if they could resolve this problem - whatever it was - without my help. I heard a few more screeches from Dante, but still I waited.
Then I heard Gabe saying "Sorry Dante! Sorry Dante!" Then the screeching stopped, and I heard a few indistinguishable words exchanged between the two of them, and then normal conversation resumed.
By George, I think they've got it! (at least some of the time, anyway)
What are boys without bumps, bruises, and (knock on wood) broken bones :-) Mediating between two siblings can be a full time job! Let them do it themselves!! Very smart!!
