A quiet day for us today. I had another fabulous swim this morning (1700m straight freestyle in 55 minutes), and am just astounded at how great I'm feeling in the pool lately. So great that I just ordered myself two new bathing suits! I really needed them. The one I bought last year was totally stretched out, and I got great deals on both of the new ones at www.swimoutlet.com. I am SO ready to do a tri, and have narrowed it down to about three different races, so decision time is near....
Haven't run since Monday night (I think I have a groin pull - ouch! - and want to give it some time to heal). I went out with the running club that night, and we ran the course for the Blessing, which I'll be running next month.
It was a great night for a run - cool and damp. Running eight miles in cool, comfortable weather feels a hundred times better than running 3.1 miles in hot, humid weather! It was nice to run the course, too - I've never run a course prior to a race, and I'm glad I finally got the chance to. It'll be nice to know what to expect on race day.
Tomorrow is supposed to be our rescheduled luau playdate. It was originally planned for Tuesday, but the Monday night forecast called for showers on and off all day on Tuesday, so I rescheduled for tomorrow. And wouldn't you know it - Tuesday ended up being an absolutely beautiful day. All I can say is, tomorrow better be a nice one, because I don't want to have to reschedule again!
I took the boys to the park yesterday afternoon, and Gabe's demeanor in the afternoon has been less than stellar lately, due to the fact that he's waking up at 5am most mornings (and staying up late the night before sometimes, too). The kid is just chronically overtired, and it makes for some rough afternoons for both him and me. But having him nap is out of the question, because then he'll stay up even later at night, and still wake up at 5am. It's a no-win situation. We just have to hope that the 5am wakeup phase passes quickly.
He actually did ok at the park, except for one incident. Two other kids were there, and they were sitting in this little car, and Gabe decided that he wanted to sit in the car, and I told him he'd have to wait his turn. That brought on a whole display of crying and whining and him throwing himself down on the ground. It wasn't pretty.
Then, when the other kids got out of the car, I told Gabe that he could have his turn now. So what did he do? He just sat there. I told him again. He continued to sit there.
Eventually, after a minute or two, while Gabe remained sitting on the ground pouting, one of the other kids decided to get back in the car.
This, of course, was when Gabe decided that he was ready to go in the car, but now he had to "waaaaaaiiiiiittttttt for his turn agaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn!!!!!" More whining, more crying, more dramatic throwing himself on the ground.
I really truly believe that sometimes he does this stuff JUST to annoy me.
Aside from the park incident, though, we had a fun day yesterday. He and I were working on his Thomas the Tank Engine computer (which he's currently completely obsessed with, and a total pro at), and he gets so excited and happy when he gets a question right, and one time after he got an answer correct, he leaned over and hugged me and said "I love you, Mommy! You're smart!"
He was doing the same thing with Dante this morning, too. They were sitting in our bed together while I folded laundry, and every time Gabe got a correct answer on his Thomas computer, he'd lean over and hug Dante and say "I love you, Dante!" And Dante would answer back "I love you, Gabe - always!"
Dante cracked me up last night, too. Scott went out for a ride on his motorcycle just after we finished dinner, and the boys and I were sitting at the table and could see Scott in the garage getting his helmet on and getting ready to go, and Dante yelled out to him "Be careful! Be careful on your motorcycle, Daddy!"
He's a thoughtful little kid. As I was giving them a once-over tonight, checking for ticks, I was trying to look more closely at a spot on Gabe's arm, and he was getting all freaked out. And Dante came over and tried to soothe him, saying "It's ok, Gabe. It's ok." So sweet.
A motorcycle was parked next to us at the gym today, and as I was getting the boys buckled into their seats, the guy who owned the motorcycle came out and was getting ready to leave, and he asked me if he should wait to start it up, because he didn't want to scare them. I laughed and assured him that they, unfortunately, LOVE motorcycles, and wouldn't be the least bit scared. And sure enough, when he started it up, they both pumped their fists in the air and yelled "MOTORCYCLE! YEAH!" It was awfully nice of him to ask, though, I thought.
Today's not-to-be-forgotten moment, though, was just before dinner. I called the boys over to the table, and as they came over, Gabe decided to reach over and hug Dante, and they were both wearing these huge, goofy grins, and Gabe said "We're nice brothers, Mommy." And Dante said "Nice brothers!"
I love it when they get all goofy and sappy like that. And I love that when they're 14 years old I can show this to them and watch how embarrassed they get.
Ummmm. Your supposed to wear bathing suits until they fall apart...at the most inopportune times.... no wait. That's me :-)

You are not trying to tell me this is news to you? LOL!!
