Wow

I will, of course, write up a full report soon with way too many details, but here's the short version - 

Swim - 1/3 mile - approximately 18 minutes. I figured it would take me between 15 and 20 minutes, and I was right. Lots of breaststroke, and lots of swimming with my head above the water (because I am really, really bad at swimming in a straight line!), but NO panic, and NO fear. None whatsoever. I felt great - it was just a nuisance getting smacked in the face with waves and swallowing salt water. But when I was able to get my head in the water and get into a good rhythm, it was fabulous. 

T1 - not really sure, but maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Quicker than I thought I would be. 

Bike - 16 miles - 48 minutes - I NAILED it!!! I passed SO many people on the bike, and although my legs felt pretty trashed at first, and took a few minutes to recover from the swim, I mostly felt really good for the whole ride. 

T2 - a little over 3 minutes, I think. 

Run - 3.5 miles - 28:58. I would have liked to go a little faster on the run, but I was definitely getting tired at that point. And the second mile had two long inclines, which slowed me down quite a bit. But I felt pretty strong, and finished the final half mile at a 7:37 pace. 

Total time - 1:40:25!!!!! 

I still cannot believe I did it. 

I had tears in my eyes several times during the bike ride, thinking about the fact that I had just swam 1/3 of a mile in the ocean, something that I never ever would have thought myself capable of, and that I was well on my way to completing this race. 

I did it. 

I'm a triathlete.
