Not To Belabor The Point, But.....

....just so that nobody thinks I was exaggerating - here's the elevation chart for the marathon: 

Whoever chose to describe that as "a few challenging hills" needs to get a better grasp of the English language, because that is the understatement of the year. 

I ordered my official race photos yesterday, and will definitely be sharing them as soon as I get the CD. I think they came out pretty good. 

I've run twice this week, and although I feel great overall, the problem shin is bothering me, and I'm going to do the smart thing and take a week off from running to let it fully recover from the marathon.

I read something in "Runner's World" this month about taking time off due to injury, and it was something to the effect of "do you want to run for the next two weeks, or do you want to run for the rest of your life?"  I'd much rather have the latter, so I'm going to play it safe and occupy myself with swimming and weights, and maybe even (quite literally, I'm embarrassed to admit) dust off my bike and go for a ride. 

It's hard for me to get into the mindset of being relaxed, and not having a huge race looming. For so long, all I've thought about is how I HAD to get my training done. So it's hard to be so much more laid-back about it now. I do have a few 5Ks coming up, and I'd like to do well in them, but keeping myself healthy is more important. Still have to do some more investigating on the orthotics, too.... 

The boys are doing well. I finished up Gabe's halloween costume this morning, and he loves it!  It's amazing what you can do with some felt and a glue gun! They tried their costumes on, and when Gabe put his on, Dante said "Gabe, you look pretty!"  I'm not sure I'd describe Planet Hero Ace as 'pretty,' but at least he was being complimentary  : ) 

I really can't even remember what we've been up to this week - we've had some playdates, done some shopping, made a few trips to the park - the usual. 

They're getting so excited for Halloween, and have been taking their baskets and practicing trick-or-treating. It's going to be even more fun taking them out this year! Every year that goes by, they get more and more into it, and it's so awesome to see how much fun they have. Hopefully we'll have nice weather for the big night. 

I know there's about a million and one cute and/or funny things the boys have done lately that I haven't written down, but I will be getting back into the swing of things soon, and writing more regularly - and not writing just about the race, which I'm sure everyone is getting sick of hearing about!

I have to admire your ability to run that far. More specifically, I admire your ability to *want* to run that far. I'd get about 100 yards and say "Why the hell am I doing this?" and go home. It's quite an impressive accomplishment.

We have the costumes for our boys all ready as well. I'm even taking Halloween off of work this year so I don't have to rush home to go out with them.
