I went swimming today for the first time in, well, I don't even remember how long. Let's just say, it's been a while. So long that I honestly wondered if I'd remember what to do when I got in the pool! But I did. And it really wasn't even as hard as I thought it would be. And I really, really enjoyed it. I thought I'd do about 1000 meters. Then after I got to 1000, I figured I'd do 1200. Then after I got to 1200, I figured I'd just go ahead and swim a mile. So I did, and it took me about 45 minutes - slow, but not too bad, for not having swum in a long, long time. Hooray!
The bad news is that while I was having my great swim, Gabe was fighting with one of his friends. Not just bickering, either - really and truly fighting, to the point that his glasses got pushed up onto his nose and cut him a little bit. From what I was told, it was more the other kid provoking Gabe, but I'm still disappointed about the whole thing. He was a little upset, but didn't seem terribly phased by it. He said that the other boy wasn't being nice. So I've told him that if someone isn't playing nicely, that he needs to go find a different friend to play with. Hopefully he'll remember that.
He and Dante had karate this morning, and they both did SO well! Gabe has been doing well all along, and Dante did pretty well last week, but they both did SUCH a good job listening and following directions this morning. I was so proud of them. And it was so cute to watch them! Scott was able to come down and see them, too, and they were thrilled about that.
Dante has been having a bit of a hard time lately with dropping Gabe off at school. He keeps running into the classroom and trying to play with the toys, and when we got out to the car the other day and I explained to him that he had to stop doing that, he got all pouty and said "I wanna go to school with Gabe." Way to break my heart, Dante... : (
It must be so hard for him. And since he naps while Gabe is at school. it's not even like I can do special stuff with him during that time, to make him feel a little better about not being at school. Poor kid. He'll be there soon enough, though. And until then, I'll duplicate as many of Gabe's school projects as I can.
For instance, Gabe came running out yesterday when I picked him up, proudly displaying the pilgrim hat he had made. And as soon as we got home, I had to make Dante a pilgrim hat, too. And they both wore them to the store today. They're so cute : )
I don't think I ever even wrote about Gabe's show and tell at school last week. He brought in one of his Rescue Hero toys, and from what he said, it went well. It was so cute to hear him talk about all the stuff his friends brought in. One of his friends brought in a walking, talking robot, and that's what Gabe said he wants for Christmas. I told him I wasn't sure if Santa would be able to bring that for him. Maybe if Santa looks on craigslist....
They're both very excited for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I told them about the parade, and they can't wait to watch it. It didn't really hold their attention very long last year, but I think they'll be much more interested this year. Let's hope so, because Scott and I have a lot of cooking to do!
And now that they have their very own drums (courtesy of two empty oatmeal canisters and four unsharpened pencils), they can march right along with the parade on TV. They love those silly little drums. And I don't mind them, since the noise they make is pretty benign.
Gabe has started to try telling us knock-knock jokes, except that he has absolutely no idea how to really do it. The other day he said to me "Knock knock. Who's there? Mommy." And I said "Mommy who?" And he answered "Mommy.....um....you!" and started laughing.
His delivery and timing need some work, as do the jokes themselves, but he'll get a laugh out of me anyway.
A blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family, Michelle!!
