We took the boys to see Santa Claus this morning, and although Gabe acted like he was a little nervous while waiting in line, when it was our turn, he went running right up and gave Santa a big hug. Santa said "And who are you?" And Gabe answered "It's me!"
Dante was not crying and screaming and running away like last year, but he was a little less enthusiastic than Gabe - until he heard that he was going to get a coloring book and a candy cane. Then he seemed to warm right up to the guy in the big red suit.
We always go see Santa at the local mall, which is really a pretty pathetic excuse for a mall - it has about 8 stores total. But it works out great for seeing Santa, because there's never a big line. We only waited about 3 minutes today, and that's as crowded as I've ever seen it. And it's been the same Santa every year, and he's so nice, and spends a good 5 minutes chatting with each kid, and they don't even pressure you to buy the photo from them.
We even stop in and just say hi to Santa often during the week, if we're out running errands. I know the boys will be very happy to go back and visit at least a few more times before the big day. By the time we left, Dante was even willing to give Santa a hug : )
It's just so amazing to see the look in their eyes - they really truly believe all of it. It's pretty awesome.
To continue the christmas festivities, we also made our gingerbread house today. As I anticipated, far more candy was consumed than went on the house, but that's part of the fun, right?
When I told them we were going to make the gingerbread house, they got all excited, and Gabe yelled "I'm a good taster!"
They both proved to be very proficient in tasting both the candy and the frosting - and we turned out a pretty nice little gingerbread house, too:
This is his "I know I'm eating too much candy, but you're not stopping me, so I'm going to keep doing it" face.
ROFL... I was expecting to see a couple of bites out of the house :-)
