Sugar High

As I expected, the cookie decorating playdate was extraordinarily messy. But it was also extraordinarily fun, so well worth the mess. 

I lost track of how many cookies Gabe ate. He has a serious sweet tooth!  And both he and Dante poured roughly half a cup of sprinkles on their cookies before I saw what they were doing and grabbed the sprinkles from them. 

It was really cute, though, and I think the kids all had a great time. 

I've been searching for a while for the perfect sugar cookie recipe, and I think the one I tried for this batch of cookies is the one I'll use from now on. The cookies were perfect - nice and soft, and not overly sweet. Just SO good!  I got the recipe here. I've found tons of great recipes on that site, and it's now one of the first places I look. 

I also got the frosting recipe there, and it worked out great - except that if I ever do this again, I think I'll put the frosting in plastic squeeze bottles. The way I set it up today was to have the frosting in bowls, and the kids used plastic knives to spread the frosting on their cookies. There was a fair amount of frosting licking going on, though. Yuck. Definitely squeeze bottles next time. 

And in a perfect example of how incomprehensible toddlers' behavior can be, Dante decided during the playdate that he had to use the potty, so I brought him in the bathroom and helped him get up on the potty seat, and he proceeded to wave me away, saying "Go away, Mommy. Give me some privacy." 

I obliged, and went in the other room, and not even 30 seconds later, I was greeted by the sight of his bare bottom as he came tearing through the roomful of people half-naked yelling "I peed in the potty!"  

Privacy, indeed.

Huh... I think Dante and I were separated at birth. I do the same thing, much to Dee Dee's chagrin :-)

I never thought of using squeeze bottles for frosting! Great idea!
