I was supposed to get up and go for a run early this morning, but I blew it off. I went out last night and didn't get home until almost 11, so didn't get to sleep until 11:30, and it was Scott's turn to get up with the boys this morning, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. And the next thing I knew it was almost 8am and the boys were coming in the room yelling "It's time to get up, Mommy!"
I had been really looking forward to getting out for a run, but in the end, sleep trumped running. And I'm glad it did, because sleeping until almost 8am felt really, really good.
It's funny, though, because I'm just so not driven with my running right now. The last time I ran was Sunday, at the
crappiest 5K ever, and normally 4 days off from running would have me tearing my hair out and feeling all antsy. But this morning I just kind of shrugged it off and went on with my day.
I have no serious goals or aspirations right now with regard to running, and no big races in mind, and it's been that way since the marathon, but I'm still kind of baffled by how ok I am with it. But I think the fact that I am ok with it is a sign that this is what I need right now.
I'll try to get in a few miles tomorrow, but if I don't, I think I'll be ok with that, too. I know I'll get back in the swing of things soon enough.
The boys and I had a nice day. I've been doing some major purging of toys, in preparation for the influx of Christmas presents, and while clearing out the old stuff, I moved around some of the toys that aren't getting packed away. And one of the great tricks of parenthood is that moving an old toy to a new location makes it seem like an ENTIRELY NEW AND FABULOUS TOY! So they discovered a few of these "NEW" toys, and we had a fun time playing with them.
I purged a whole lot of stuff, though, and I think I'm almost as excited as they are to get the new Christmas presents. I'm even getting sick of playing with all the stuff they have!
We're in the midst of the second rainy day in a row, and we spent all of yesterday afternoon inside, so I knew we had to get out this afternoon. So after we picked Gabe up from school, we headed to the coffee shop at the mall, and while we were there, we stopped and said hi to Santa, and the boys each got a candy cane.
Dante's candy cane was gone in about 20 seconds (it was one of the mini ones, but still...!). Gabe, on the other hand, very slowly licked his and made it last for quite a while. Part of the reason he eats candy canes so slowly is that he's a little hesitant about how minty they are. Or, as he puts it, they're "too red."
He even specified today that he likes candy canes ok, but he'd rather have "something that's REALLY good, like fruit snacks."
I'm such an awful mom, aren't I, making him 'settle' for a candy cane instead of fruit snacks? Hopefully he's not scarred for life.....
Dear Lord, I so need a purge at my house :-) We are PACKRATS!!

It's hard to stay motivated without a race or two on the horizon (at least for me). Enjoy the downtime. It's a good time of year for it.
