Doing ok, but feeling kind of scatter-brained and still having some serious mood swings, as well as some insomnia, so still not quite back in the swing of things with regular blogging. I'll get there soon, I think, but in the meantime, just a few funnies that the boys have treated me to in recent days -
I put Dante down for a nap, and he was at the top of the stairs 5 minutes later yelling that his pants needed to be buttoned. As I came up the stairs, he was standing there pointing to his waistband, saying "See - here's the problem."
He took one of the gift bags from Gabe's party and filled it up with a random assortment of toys, and when Gabe asked what was in it, Dante replied very seriously "No, Gabe, you can't see it. This is very dangerous stuff I'm delivering here."
While Scott and I were at the hospital last week, the boys spent the morning with friends, and had a fabulous time. They went on and on about everything that they did, but the one thing they could not stop talking about was playing with the Star Wars light "savers." They're both mesmerized by anything Star Wars-related, so the light "savers" were a huge hit.
The boys were playing some kind of pretend superhero game the other day, and Dante went running down the hall, saying he was going to Spiderman's house, and when he turned around and started walking back, I asked him how things were at Spiderman's house. He shook his head and said very grimly "Not so good, Mommy."
There's a cashier at the grocery store who loves seeing both the boys, but especially gets a kick out of Dante, so we always try to check out with her when we're there. The other morning before we went shopping I was talking to Dante about her, and asked him if he remembered her name. He said she's the "belt girl," I guess because when we check out, we ask him to help us put the groceries up on the conveyor belt. Makes sense, I guess. So he was telling me that he's a little shy of belt girl, but someday he will grow up to be bigger, and then he won't be so shy of her at the store anymore. A true romantic.
They were having one of their unusually collaborative moments one day last week, working really nicely on putting a puzzle together and chatting away the whole time. Suddenly I heard Gabe gasp and say "Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Dante?!" I never really heard Dante's answer, but then the next thing I did hear was Dante saying "Awww..... now we have to scrub the mission." I don't think I want to know what the 'mission' was.
Gabe got a surprise present from the magician at his party on Saturday - a magic kit - and we opened it up yesterday. Most of the tricks are a bit beyond his skill level, but we'll still have some fun doing them for/with him. It came with a very cool wizard cap and wand, which Gabe took out and pointed at things, and when nothing happened, declared that "It doesn't work." I guess the magician was a little too convincing when he asked the kids to 'help' him with the magic tricks at the party - Gabe really seemed to be expecting magic to happen when he pointed the wand and said 'Abracadabra.'
We borrowed a little kid-sized folding table and chairs for the party, and they just happened to have big pictures of Nemo all over them. We haven't returned them yet, and I think there's going to be trouble when we do, because Dante has been sitting at that table for every single meal since the party, and even drags the chairs into the living room to sit on and watch tv. He also set the 4 chairs up in a row yesterday and said he was making a movie theater.
What's really funny, though, is that he keeps calling it an "Elmo table," when it's very clearly got Nemo plastered all over it. And even funnier is that he calls it HIS Elmo table. I've explained to him several times that it belongs to his friends and we have to return it, but I think it's still going to be a rude awakening when that actually happens.
While I cleaned up after the bash on Saturday night, Scott took the boys out to get us some takeout pizza for dinner. And as we ate our dinner - me, Scott, and Gabe at the kitchen table and Dante at "his Elmo table," we were talking about the party, and the magic show, and Dante looked at me and said "So, Mommy, what was your favorite part of the party?"
Taking a cue from Dante, I asked Gabe what his favorite part of the party was, and was not surprised that he answered "opening my presents." I hope he got his fill, because there won't be nonstop present-opening like that for quite some time.....
that was a pretty good swing (of things) :-)
