A Taste Of Summer

It has been a fabulous, but exhausting, weekend. 

Yesterday - 

Ran a 5K at 9am. Finished in 23:33, hung around to collect 2nd place age group award (!!!!), then went home to greet Mom and Dad, who were visiting for the day. Spent all day outside - helped clear the garden of rocks while Dad roto-tilled, made everyone lunch, went out for ice cream later in the afternoon, bathed two filthy boys who played in the dirt for well over an hour, cooked dinner, watched the Red Sox beat the Yankees (woohoo!!!), went to bed. 

Today - 

Ran 5 miles in what felt like July heat and humidity, went grocery shopping, came home and put groceries away, made lunch, took boys to swim class, came home, raked out entire garden, cleared out many more rocks, planted three kinds of lettuce seeds and some scallions, bathed two filthy children who again played in the dirt for quite some time, cooked dinner, and will hopefully again watch the Sox beat the Yankees. 

So yeah, I'm pretty beat. I'll write a more detailed race report tomorrow, but one thing that I am immensely proud of and can't hold off writing about is that I was the 10th female finisher overall. TENTH, out of all the women who ran the race!!!!  I'm almost more proud of that than I am of my age-group award!  

The weekend was definitely action-packed, and although I'm dying to see if the Sox can sweep the Yankees, I seriously doubt that I'll be able to stay up late enough to see if that happens. 

And I definitely can't write much more - although I will say that our time outside yesterday was a perfect illustration of how completely different our two children are from one another - Dante, without even being asked, set to work clearing rocks out of the garden, loading them up in the wagon, pulling the wagon to the back of the yard, throwing the rocks over the stone wall into the woods, and then pulling the wagon back up the hill to the garden and starting all over again. 

As Dante was busy with his work, Gabe ran around the yard with his spray bottle, shooting water up in the air and screaming. 

And that pretty much sums it up.
