I can't believe it's already Wednesday. The week is flying by. I've been busy working in the garden every chance I get, and busy getting the boys outside to play. We're all so happy that spring is finally here to stay!
Yesterday was actually more summer-like, though, and I took the boys to the beach in the afternoon. We didn't stay too long, but it was nice to be there for any length of time. We ran into a few friends from the gym, too, which was nice. The boys ran around near the water, and even got their toes wet, but that was as far as they got. I was glad. Cleaning off all the dry sand is bad enough, but once they get wet and sandy, forget it......
Aside from the beach trip, they're just loving being out in the backyard running around, playing with their giant fribsee, kicking beach balls around, playing t-ball, spraying water all over everything with their spray bottles... And we've been eating lunch outside just about every day, too, which I love for two reasons - it's great to be out enjoying the fresh air, and even better, I don't have to sweep the floor when we're done eating! Cleanup is so much easier when we eat out there - I plan to start doing dinner outside pretty soon, too.
Dinner tonight started out as a total fiasco. Gabe spilled his milk all over the table and floor, and as we were cleaning that up, Dante spilled his drink all over himself and the floor, and proceeded to sob hysterically about how his pants were wet. Never anything even close to a dull moment around here. Luckily things quieted down after that, and we had a nice meal.
The boys and I took a trip to Home Depot this afternoon to get a few more packets of seeds for the garden, and some more chicken wire to (hopefully) keep the bunnies out. We haven't seen quite as many bunnies in the yard this year, and I'm wondering if that's due to the fact that the next door neighbors now have a dog? They definitely are still out there, though, so we've got to at least take some kind of steps to try to keep them away.
Among the seeds we bought today were pumpkins and nasturtiums. I think they'll get such a kick out of growing their very own pumpkins! I'm not so sure they'll actually eat the nasturtiums - which are edible - but I bet they'll think it's pretty cool if they see me eating flowers in my salad!
They started swim class last Sunday, and it went very well. Dante was really nervous at first, and it took a lot of convincing to get him in the water, but once he was in, he really enjoyed it. He wouldn't blow bubbles, and he didn't like floating on his back, but other than that, he did great. Gabe did well, too - I was really only supporting him with one hand while he was floating on his belly and kicking. I think by the time the class is over, Gabe will probably be able to swim on his own, and if Dante isn't quite to that point, he'll be very close.
Gabe's evaluations for kindergarten are underway. The special education team I met with a few weeks ago thought that in all likelihood he won't qualify for any formal services through their group, but that it would probably be a good idea to do the evaluations anyway, so that we can get a really good handle on what types of things he might struggle with when he gets to kindergarten next year, and be better equipped to help him with those things, so that he can have an enjoyable kindergarten experience.
He had one evaluation earlier this week, and will have two next week. One reason I wasn't at all opposed to doing these evaluations is that he absolutely loves stuff like this. He responds so well, and is so cooperative, and after he was done the other day, he went on and on about how much fun he had. If he was the type of kid who was really nervous and apprehensive about things like this, I probably would have thought twice before agreeing to all the evaluations, but since it clearly doesn't bother him in the least, I have no qualms about it. And I'm all for figuring out more effective ways to help him with some of the things he struggles with, so I think these are all steps in the right direction.
They've both been up to their usual shenanigans, and coming out with some good one-liners, but unfortunately, I can't remember a single one of them at the moment. They kept us entertained after dinner, though - I tied a bathrobe belt around each of their waists, and they did 'karate' in the living room. It was really cute.
And today in the car, there was actually a quiet moment (a very rare occurrence), and Dante looked over at Gabe and said "Gabe, do you love me?" Gabe replied "Sure. Yeah, sure, Dante!"
The look on Dante's face was priceless. He almost looked like he had been expecting Gabe to say no, and was just so thrilled that the answer was yes.
They are such typical brothers - they beat each other up constantly, and fight over everything, but deep down, they're two sensitive little guys who love each other to pieces.
