The boys haven't yet started asking us where babies come from, so we haven't had to delve into the birds and the bees discussion, but we have been talking an awful lot about bees, seeing as how Gabe has suddenly decided he's deathly afraid of them - and not just bees, but all bugs.
We'll be getting ready to go outside, and he'll ask me if there are any bugs out there, and when I say yes, there are, his lower lip starts quivering and he honestly begins considering whether or not he should just stay inside.
I don't know where this came from, but I'm really losing may patience with it, which frightens me, since it's only May 1st, and we have a long, bug-filled summer ahead of us.
He's constantly asking me questions about bees and bugs, and I try to remind him of all the good things that bees and bugs do for us, and that if you leave them alone, they'll mostly leave you alone, and while we're talking, that's all fine and good, but once confronted with an actual live insect, he runs screaming and crying and flailing his arms. It is not a pretty sight.
He had a major bug-related meltdown this afternoon, and in the midst of it, Scott was trying to calm him down, and asked him what was wrong, and Gabe sobbed "I woke up too early this morning!"
He was right. He did wake up too early. The bug was what set him off this afternoon, but the poor kid was tired all day. Know why? He had a pizza party at school today. A pizza party that he's been talking about ALL WEEK, and that he must have thought of the second he opened his eyes this morning, because he came running into our room at 5:45 am (his usual wakeup time these days is 7:00), yelling "Today is my pizza party!!!"
All Gabe's pizza party excitement, of course, served the dual purpose of making Dante extremely jealous. So after we dropped Gabe off at school, Dante and I went out and ran a few errands, and then went to the pizza place for our very own pizza party. He had a slice of olive pizza and a bottle of water, and kept telling me over and over again "I LOVE olive pizza! I love water!" It's so wonderful that such little things can make them so happy : )
T-Ball is scheduled to start tomorrow. Gabe is very excited about this, too, so it could be another early morning for us tomorrow. And as with the pizza party, there is some serious jealousy on Dante's part about the fact that he is not playing T-Ball with Gabe. It's tough sometimes being a little brother.
The other day Gabe got a small splinter on his hand, and he forgot that it was called a splinter, and must have thought it was called a blister, but apparently forgot what that was called, too, because he came over to me telling me that he had a "blizzard" on his hand.
Gabe also told me a few days ago that I was his "best friend in the whole world." Definitely a great mommy moment : )
I went to the pregnancy loss support
group last night, and I’m really glad I did. There is just something so
comforting about knowing that you’re in a room full of women who all know
exactly how you’re feeling , and to know that there’s nothing wrong with
feeling that way, and feeling so welcome and encouraged to talk about that as
much as you want. I didn’t cry, but it did cause some of the pain to resurface,
but it was somehow in a good way. Something about sharing the pain made it hurt
less. Hard to explain, but it was a good experience, and I plan to go again
next month.
