After what has seemed like weeks of nothing but rainy, gray, gloomy, humid days, we woke up this morning to blue skies and dry air and wonderfully refreshing (if a little gusty) wind.
I knew it was going to be a good day.
Scott's parents and his sister came over for brunch around 9. Scott made a fabulous quiche, bacon, sausage, and hash browns, and I made fruit salad and blueberry muffins. And to make it a true brunch, we had chocolate orange cheesecake (made by me last night) for dessert.
It was a lovely meal, and we had a lot of laughs, and once the muffins were made, I didn't lift a finger for the rest of the day - it was great!
After everyone left, we got the boys outside to play for a little while, then headed off to swim class. Gabe is doing so well. He is so close to swimming on his own, and the instructor got him even closer this week. He still gets really freaked out about going on his back, and got really upset about that today, but I think with a few more lessons, he'll actually be swimming - and Dante won't be far behind, since his main goal in life is to keep up with whatever Gabe is doing.
Once swim class was over, Scott took the boys home and they played outside some more, and I had a couple of hours to myself. I didn't do anything exciting - just a trip to Target. But it's always nice to go shopping alone and be able to browse and linger and not be constantly distracted - and I bought myself a new purse and some gardening clogs, so I got a few little treats : )
When I got home, I sat on the couch with the boys and watched a little TV while Scott cooked a very yummy dinner, and tonight I will have yet another piece of cheesecake.
As if that wasn't enough, Scott got me one of these (but in silver) - for my charm bracelet.
It was pretty much a perfect day. We are under a bit of stress at the moment, but for today at least, that all seemed to melt away, and the entire day, all I could think about was how much I love my boys and what an amazing gift they are. A very, very happy mother's day : )
