Two days into summer vacation, and all is well. Yesterday was a fabulous day. It started out cloudy, so we hit the library in the morning, and then got our outside time in later in the afternoon. Dante actually napped yesterday, and while he was sleeping, Gabe and I put together every single puzzle we own. And we didn't take them apart as we were done with them - we left them all on the kitchen table. It was quite a display. We were close to running out of room, but managed to fit them all in. We were just finishing up as Dante came downstairs from his nap, and he was pretty impressed.
They've both really been into puzzles lately, which is good, since we've been stuck inside a lot due to the less-than-beautiful weather.
Today started out cloudy, too, and stayed that way for longer than I would have liked. We sat out on the deck and played with clay for a while, but it was actually kind of chilly, so that didn't last too long. I'm so fed up with this weather. There has just been too much rain, and too many gray skies. It's depressing.
The sun did finally come out today, though, and we spent most of the afternoon outside. I put another application of organic fertilizer on all the plants in the garden, and we also went to buy a bale of straw that I put down as mulch.
I weeded the whole garden once last week, and was not looking forward to having to do it again - it's a big garden - so hopefully the straw will do the trick. And it will of course help keep the moisture in, too. Not that that's a problem these days, since it's constantly raining, but I'm sure we'll get our fair share of dry weather later in the summer.
While I was doing that, the boys alternately played frisbee, t-ball, and basketball, with occasional skirmishes and crying and screaming.
When Dante saw the straw all over the garden, he said "It looks like a big farm now!" They're both very excited to see everything growing. I took them around today and showed them how there are almost flowers on the squash and the pepper plants, and showed them the flowers on the peas and the tomato plants. They both claim that they can't wait to eat the nasturtiums, but it'll be interesting to see how they react when they actually taste one - they're very peppery tasting. You never know, though - the idea of eating a flower might be too tempting to resist.
Tomorrow is supposed to be one of the nicest days we've had/will have in a while, so I'm thinking about taking them strawberry picking. I'm going to call the farm in the morning to see if this is a good time for it, and if it is, we'll head on over. And later in the day I have to drag them to my midwife appointment with me. It should be a pretty quick one, though, so I think they'll be fine. And my doctor's office has lollipops, which are usually a pretty effective bribe.
I'm nervous, but since I'm still feeling so crappy, I'm a little less paranoid and freaked out than I've been at all the other appointments.
Here's hoping it's a good day - on all counts.
Oh, and in case you didn't see on facebook, I'm going to make this blog password-protected soon. I'll probably do that tomorrow or Thursday. If you've already told me via facebook that you still want to read, I'll email password info to you as soon as I've got it set up. If you haven't told me yet, now's your chance.....
Totally up to you :-)

As far as the weeds in the garden, you might want to try using cedar chips as a ground covering. I found they work really well at stopping weeds, they smell nice and look pretty good, too.
Love the puzzle building table. Our boys love doing puzzles, too, but we can't keep them stationary long enough to do more than one.
