Scott is on vacation this week, and everyone always asks us if we're going to go anywhere, and the answer is always no. One of the reasons we moved to Rhode Island is because we LOVE Rhode Island in the summer, so when he takes a week out of work, we spend it right here, enjoying the gorgeous beaches that we're so lucky to live so close to. And that's exactly what we've been doing.
Monday Chu-Chu visited, and we all went to the beach together, and had a fabulous time. They would have stayed out in the water all day if we had let them. I didn't mind, though, because the water feels so nice right now. Hopefully Chu-Chu didn't mind, either - she was pretty waterlogged by the time we left!
Monday night was week 3 of the Youth Track Series, and for the first time, Gabe ran the 200-yard dash. 200 yards isn't all that much to a grownup, but to a 5-year-old, that's a loooooong way to run! I showed him several times how far he was going to run, and he said he was ready. And boy, was he ever! He took off and never looked back - I couldn't believe how fast he went! He was exhausted when he finished (way more tired than after the 100), but he came in second : )
Dante's doing great in his races, too. I ran behind him this week, instead of next to him, and he was totally fine - he didn't even look back to make sure I was there. He's a speedy little guy, too, and came in third in both of his races. And yes, I know it's all just for fun, but I can't help being proud of them when they do well.
Yesterday was a rainy day, so we went out to breakfast - a special treat we had promised the boys - and then ran a few errands in Warwick. One of our stops was at the bookstore, and we got lucky and walked in just as they were starting storytime, so that was another nice treat.
Last night, Scott and I went out to dinner and tried a new restaurant in town, and had one of the best meals we've ever eaten. The only problem with my food is that I ate way too much of it, and it was all really super rich - lobster bisque, caesar salad, scallops with orange beurre blanc, and mashed potatoes. So unbelievably yummy, but I was so stuffed I didn't even have room for dessert. I still felt full when I woke up this morning! I brought half of the scallops home, though, and can't wait to dig into them.
Today was gorgeous, so we were back at the beach and had another great day. And another special treat we had promised the boys was that we'd go out to dinner one night this week, and tonight was the night.
Since it was so nice out, we decided to go to
The Coast Guard House to eat out on the deck. The food is only so-so, but the views are spectacular, and it's fun to go eat up there with them - they especially get a big kick out of it.
They're so adorable, too - Gabe was so excited to go out to eat, he said he wanted to wear his fancy Easter shirt, so that's what they both did -
They clean up nice, don't they?
As if dinner out wasn't enough, we also decided to surprise them with a stop at Brickley's on the way home, where we all had ice cream for dessert.
Hooray for ice cream!
A great way to end a great summer day.
