The summer heat is in full force, but the days of summer are quickly waning. We're continuing to make the most of them, though.
Went to the Washington County Fair last week with Mom and Dad, and had a great time, even though it was rainy and drizzly the whole day. The boys loved all the animals, but of course their favorite part was the carnival rides. They went on a few of them together, and Dante went on a couple by himself, and one with Grampy. They also each did two games and won two little stuffed fish, which they've been sleeping with every night since.
Although we had planned on spending all weekend at the beach, I woke up not feeling great on Saturday, and we had some stuff we wanted to get done around the house, so we decided to skip the beach, and ended up having a great day anyway. We filled the pool for the boys, and they spent all afternoon in there, and we were able to get some stuff done, and luckily I was feeling better by the afternoon, so it ended up being a really fun day. I'm very glad we got the "family size" pool this year, because it really is big enough for all four of us to get in, and we did just that on Saturday. The boys think it's pretty cool for us to be in there with them : )
Yesterday was all about the beach, though - with the Kielhack clan, who we don't see nearly often enough, and were very glad to be able to spend the day with. The kids had so much fun playing together, and it was just a perfect beach day, and we had a fabulous time. We came back here for a yummy summer dinner of grilled steak; fresh potatoes with butter, salt and pepper; salad; and corn, and finally called it a night around 9pm. The boys were beyond exhausted - and so was I, actually, but it was such a fun visit, I hope we can do it again sooner rather than later.
We all slept well last night, and the boys and I were back at the beach at 10am this morning, and stayed until 4. It's been so hot and humid, and it's so much more comfortable being down by the ocean, once you get down there, it's hard to leave. The boys did great, even after having such a long, tiring day yesterday, and we had one of the most fun beach days we've had all year. We ate dinner outside again tonight - as we've been doing most nights lately, due to it being so hot - and after dinner, went into town for ice cream. Like I said, we are really living it up and enjoying these final days of summer to their fullest!
The rest of this week Gabe is going to 'Safety Camp' - it's for kids going into kindergarten, and they spend a couple of hours a day teaching them about stranger danger, fire safety, etc. - so that's going to keep us from spending all day every day at the beach, but we'll probably get in at least a few hours here and there. I told him that he was going to Safety Camp, and he asked me if he was going to roast marshmallows. I guess in his mind, if you go to camp, you roast marshmallows. I had to explain to him that it wasn't that kind of camp. Luckily he wasn't too disappointed.
At the same time as we're winding down summer activities, I also pulled out all of Gabe's hand-me-down fall clothes to see if they fit Dante for this year, and most of them do, so I got them all washed and dried and ready to go. I know he won't need them for a while, but I wanted to see what there was, so that I would know what I'd have to buy him. Turns out he won't need much, which is nice, because I have a lot of shopping to do for Gabe.
The combination of me not feeling so great on Saturday and the heat and humidity we're experiencing has led me to have a few lazy days of not working out, and I don't even feel the least bit bad about it. I feel like I needed a little time off, and I'm glad I took it. If I feel up to it - and if it's not too oppressive - tomorrow morning, I'll get a workout in. And I know that once the heat breaks, and we all get back into a regular schedule, I'll be right back to regular workouts. This heat is just suffocating : (
On a very happy note, I'm feeling the baby kicking so much more now, which is really fun! I can't wait for Scott and the boys to be able to feel it. The kicks are definitely a lot stronger now than they were just a week ago, so I think it won't be too much longer 'til they can be felt from the outside. Definitely something fun to look forward to : )
