Went for a run yesterday morning, and happily, my back felt fine. I ran almost 4.5 miles, and averaged about 11-minute miles. I can't believe that at this time last year I was recovering from running my first marathon, and was able to run 7-minute miles in a 5K, and now here I am plodding along at 11 minutes per mile. That's what one baby and 27 extra pounds will do to you!!!
During the run, I felt great, but there were definitely some aches and pains afterward, and I think if anything, I'll probably only be able to run once a week from here on in - and may only make it another week or two. It still feels good to be out there running, but I can't say I like the aftermath of feeling stiff and achy all day. And as I wrote about last time, I'm looking forward to focusing more on yoga anyway, so the timing is right for me to ease up on the running, and I feel pretty ok with being at that stage.
Had a midwife appointment on Wednesday, and all is well. The baby's heartrate sounded great, and my blood pressure was perfect, so no concerns as of right now. I'm now at the point where I need to go for checkups every two weeks, rather than once a month, which is a very clear sign that this baby's arrival is getting closer and closer! I did my glucose tolerance test a few weeks ago, and passed that, so that was good news, too.
The boys are doing well. They've both had a lingering cough and congestion for the past week, but neither has run a fever, and aside from Dante being a little more tired than usual (and actually taking naps!), it just seems to be a cold, so we're hoping it stays that way.
Gabe apparently has a girlfriend at school. I don't know if he's aware that she's his girlfriend, but according to her mom, she refers to Gabe as her boyfriend, and they eat lunch together all the time. When I asked Gabe about her, he said "she's beautiful - just like you." And he also said that every time he sees her, he gives her a big hug. And we happened to run into her at an event in town last weekend, and true to his word, he went right up and gave her a big hug. It's pretty darn adorable.
Dante, like I mentioned, has been napping all week, which, I have to admit, has been kind of nice for me - it's made for some very quiet, relaxing afternoons, which have really recharged my batteries. I didn't feel nearly as tired this week as I have some other weeks, which was nice, for a change.
And when he gets up from his nap, we come downstairs and snuggle together on the couch for a while. It takes him a while to wake up fully, so he likes that time, and so do I. Yesterday while we were snuggling, he was watching my belly to see if he could see the baby move, and he was patient enough to wait a while and was able to see a very big kick that made my whole belly jump. The look on his face was priceless : )
I brought out all the baby clothes and got them sorted out, washed, and put away, and am very happy to have that task done. I put aside all the boy clothes, and will wash them if we need them. I also put aside the preemie clothes, in the hopes that we will not need them this time around.
There's not too much else we need to do to prepare for the baby's arrival. I want to buy new bottles - ones that are BPA-free. I plan to breastfeed, but I also plan to be able to get out of the house once in a while, so will need to have some bottles around, and the more I read about BPA, the less I want it in any products my children are drinking out of, so I'll be doing some bottle-shopping.
I also need to continue my investigations into cloth diapering, and start making some purchases, and will also be shopping around for a snap-and-go stroller to use with the infant carseat. And of course we need the crib set up, but odds are good that the baby will be sleeping in our room for at least the first few weeks, so the crib can wait a bit.
And then in the midst of all the baby preparations, I need to finish Christmas shopping and buy Dante's birthday presents, and think about getting our Christmas cards ready. So much to do, and so little time.....
