I'll be pinning on a bib number tomorrow morning for the first time in 5 months. It feels like it's been a lot longer than that, but I'm just happy that the wait is finally over!!!!
I've never done this particular 5K, but I've heard it's a good one, and the weather forecast looks pretty good - a little windy, but temps in the 50s, which I think is perfect. I think the course is pretty flat, so I'm hoping I can finish with a decent time, but I am NOT going to be disappointed if I run slower than I expect to. I am going to cut myself a whole lot of slack, since I just had a baby 11 weeks ago, and only started running 6 weeks ago.
I am going to put forth a good effort, though, and would be absolutely thrilled if I could get a sub-28:00, but anything less than 30 minutes will be awesome. And most importantly, it's just going to be fabulous to be in a race again.
Since the race isn't right in town, I'll be out of the house for several hours. It's not that far away, but probably a 25-minute drive each way, and I have to get there early, so I have time to register and pick up my stuff, and warm up a bit, and I'm also hoping to meet some members of the new local tri club, so will stay for a short while after the race - when you add all that up, it'll probably be the longest I've ever been away from Carmine. It's going to feel a little weird.
It'll be a nice kickoff to my race season, though, and I'm really, really looking forward to it : )
Since I'm doing the race tomorrow, I'm not doing a long run this week, and will just pick up where I left off and do a 9-miler next weekend, and 10 the following week, and then it's the half! I can't believe it came up so quickly!
Our weekends are going to get very busy very quickly, with me getting back to my one-race-a-month schedule, and both the boys playing soccer, and then beach season.
The boys doing great - all three of them! Gabe has had a great week at school, so we're hoping that his misbehavior a few weeks ago is a thing of the past. Dante has been keeping us laughing, as usual. He was playing with his doctor kit yesterday, and as he checked my blood pressure, he pronounced that it was "20 miles away. That's not good." Then he checked my heart with his stethoscope and said 'It's not coming in. That's not good." Then he threw his hands up in the air and said "Well, good luck!" I told him he needs to work on his bedside manner.
He also told me the other day, as he was trying to scratch his eye, and I was trying to get him into the car, that I was wasting his "eye scratching time."
Carmine is great, too. We all had yet another cold, and he had several super sniffly days, but thankfully it never got any worse than that, and has gotten significantly better the past two days. He's still all smiles, and is holding himself up so well, I'm really thinking about getting a Bumbo seat for him - I don't think he's quite ready for it, but he will be very soon. He also treated us to a little laugh on April 1st. I think it's very fitting that he laughed for the first time on April Fool's Day : )
The morning of April 1st, I told the boys what April Fool's day was all about, and told them that when Scott came downstairs, they should tell him that we watched the news and they said it was going to snow. They loved playing the big "joke" on Daddy, and then tried to come up with their own jokes throughout the day, but they still don't understand the concept very well, and basically just said random things and then laughed loudly and yelled "April Fool's!" One of Dante's jokes was "We went to the coffee table store and bought you a new coffee table! April Fool's!"
After the horrific flooding and days of rain last week, we've enjoyed a gorgeous stretch of spring and even summer-like weather this week, and have been spending tons of time outside, which has been great. I know my mood is definitely improved, and I think we're all a bit happier now that we're getting a little more sunlight and fresh air.
It's so nice to get the clothes out on the clothesline again, and to spend the after-school hours outside, rather than cooped up in the house. And I'm doing some planning for the garden, deciding what we're going to plant, and hopefully we'll get started soon with some cooler-weather crops, like lettuce and peas.
Hanging clothes outside, planting the garden, watching the boys play frisbee and ride bikes, getting back to racing.... spring has sprung, and it's a wonderful thing : )
Race report! Me first!! The kids later :-)
