Vacation week was too action-packed for me to find much time to write - but that's a good thing, because it means we were having fun!
We visited several playgrounds, met up with friends, had a playdate at our house, saw a puppet show at the library (which was fabulous, and made me wish that they had puppet shows more often!), and visited family in Connecticut.
And we wrapped the weekend up with a trip to the Paw Sox game Sunday afternoon (with Greg, Diana, and the kids, too), which also just happened to be the Paw Sox annual "Star Wars Day," so Darth Vader threw out the first pitch, and the concourses were filled with rebel fighters, storm troopers, and Jedis, all of whom were more than happy to pose for photos. A fun afternoon, and a great way to finish off our vacation week.
There are a million little stories about things that happened during last week, but I can't seem to remember most of them. I'm sure they'll pop into my head at some point, and I'll write them down when/if they do. But in the meantime, I have plenty of memories of just having a really fun week with my three boys.
I do remember that one of the conversations we had on our drive to CT was about what they're going to be when they grow up, and Dante proclaimed that he wants to be "one of the guys who draws the characters in all the movies." And Gabe is going to be a chef. I told them how I used to cook in a restaurant, and that I was also a baker, and when I explained that a baker makes bread and pies and cookies and cakes all day, Gabe quickly piped up from the backseat "Ooooo, I want to be a baker!"
Gabe checked out about 10 Star Wars books from the library last week, and he was reading one of them, and pointed out to me that one of the words (lightsaber) was spelled wrong - "it's supposed to be a 'v,' not a 'b.'"
Yesterday was a big day - I brought Dante and Carmine to the gym. It was Carmine's first time going, and I had no idea what was going to happen, and had fully prepared myself to have a very abbreviated workout. But thankfully, he did great! I was able to work out for just over an hour, and he was absolutely fine!
I know that might not always be the case, but I think it's better that I start bringing him now, rather than waiting until he's 6 or 7 months old and starting to have issues with separation anxiety. And really, being able to get in a few extra workouts a week is going to make me a much happier mommy. I've been doing ok with squeezing in the early morning workouts before Scott has to be at work, but it's been tough getting out at night, and so I've really only been able to exercise 3 times a week, which just isn't enough for me. So I'm really, really happy that Carmine did well yesterday, and hope that it mostly stays that way.
Saturday was a momentous day, too, in that I was back to double digits for my long run - 10 miles! I can't say it was easy - the last few miles felt very hard - but I got it done, and I'm feeling ready for Sunday. I think part of the problem with the 10-miler is that I didn't hydrate quite enough. I wasn't anywhere near dehydrated, but I think a little more water would have made me a little less sluggish. And I also didn't eat enough before I ran, and I'll be sure not to make that mistake Sunday. I'm going to bring a few Shot Bloks, too, and will probably have a few at the halfway point, to help keep me from running out of steam.
I'm going up Friday afternoon to pick up my packet, and will pick up a friend's, too. She and I are actually going to ride up together Sunday morning, and will start the race together, too. She's planning a 10-minute pace, which is what I want to run for at least the first 5 miles or so. Then, if I'm feeling good, I'm going to try to speed up a bit. But it'll be nice to have the company for at least the first part of the race. And I'm glad I'll have someone there to keep me honest when it comes to pacing, since I think I'd have a hard time sticking to that 10-minute pace otherwise.
Weather forecast is looking ok - it's going to get up to the mid-70s on Sunday, but the race starts at 8am, so hopefully it'll be comfortably cool while we're running, and just starting to really warm up as we're finishing. The hills are going to be enough of a challenge for me - I don't need really warm temperatures on top of that!
I'm so excited, though - can't wait to get out there!!!!
Now that we're back to our regular schedule, I'll hopefully be writing a bit more regularly. The boys are great, though - driving me crazy, keeping me entertained, making me laugh, and making me feel like the luckiest mommy in the world : )
Carmine is good baby! Have a great 10 miler this weekend!!
