I bought a jogging stroller yesterday - found a nice Baby Jogger, with 20-inch wheels, on craigslist, for $75. I won't be able to use it for a few months - Carmine can't go in it until he's sitting up well on his own - but I figured I'd grab one when I found a good deal, and this way it'll be all ready to go when he's ready.
It's going to be an adjustment for me, figuring out how to run while pushing a stroller, but I think it'll be nice to take him along with me, and it will mean that I can get out and run more often, since I'll be able to get out with him while both the boys are in school. A good investment, I think!
Brought Carmine to the pediatrician Friday. His eye has been a little irritated, and I was pretty sure it was a blocked tear duct, which is fairly common in babies, and usually clears up on its own. But his was looking infected, so I wanted to get it checked out. She agreed that's what it was, and prescribed an ointment. But a friend of mine suggested that I try putting a few drops of breastmilk in his eye a couple of times a day. And I tried it, and it worked. I only did it for a day, and his eye already looks almost 100% better. Amazing!
And speaking of amazing, my little boy is now reaching out and grabbing toys. A big milestone, and a fun one, because it's so darn cute to watch how crazy excited he gets when he gets a hold of something : )
I ran nine miles this morning. NINE miles! It's probably been about a year since I ran that far, and I was actually a little nervous before I set out this morning, but it went fine. I averaged a little under a 10 min/mile pace, and felt pretty great the whole time. A little tired the last two miles, but those are also two of the hilliest miles of the route, so that was a big factor in my tiredness.
It felt so great to get out for a really long run, though, and I'm looking forward to next wekeend's 10-miler, and then the half the following weekend!!!!!
I'm also looking forward to school vacation week, and looking forward to it being a much nicer vacation than our week in Februrary was. February vacation was not fun this year, since I had a 3-week-old baby to take care of, and was still recovering from his birth, and completely exhausted, and feeding him and pumping around the clock, and it was freezing cold and we couldn't get outside.... just a recipe for disaster, and for a house full of cranky people.
But this week is going to be much, much better. Tomorrow is going to be a quiet day, but Tuesday afternoon we have a playdate planned, and Wednesday there's a puppet show at the library, and possibly another playdate in the afternoon, and then Thursday and Friday we'll head to CT to visit family.
Gabe is keeping a "Vacation Journal" for school, and we started it today. It has various prompts for him, to help him figure out what to write, and for today, he wrote about how he woke up and had a donut for breakfast, and how we had a big joke about how there were no donuts, and how he felt happy today because he got a balloon yesterday, and that the most beautiful thing he saw today was his balloon, because he likes it.
It's so cute to see what he decides to write about. Clearly donuts and balloons are very valuable commodities to a 6-year-old boy - not a very surprising revelation!
I had a donut this morning, too - I figured I had earned it, after running 9 miles : ) I actually lost 2 pounds this week, which is slightly more than they recommend for nursing moms, so if I lose that much again next week, I'm going to allow myself a few more points every day. I want to lose the weight, but I want to lose it safely, without jeapordizing my milk supply. But between this week, and the 1.5 pounds I lost the first two weeks, I'm down 5 pounds already, which feels great! Definitely made the 9-mile run a lot easier than it would have been a few weeks ago!
The first thing babies reach for are boobies :-) LOL... Congratulations on the 9 miles, the weight loss, and the donut! Definitely earned!!
Tell Gabe-ster to keep up the good work!!

Good ole' breastmilk in the eye. It works for stuffy noses and sometimes ear infections too.
