So hard to keep up with blogging, now that the weather's nice, and we're spending so much more time outdoors. And now that it's been so long, I can't even remember most of what's happened. We're having fun, though - I know that much!
Memorial Day weekend was fabulous. The boys didn't have soccer games due to the holiday, and it was nice to have a Saturday that was not entirely devoted to soccer. Scott and I both got in our workouts, he took the boys out to lunch, and we did a few odds and ends around the house in the afternoon while the boys played outside.
Sunday we had a great time at a family barbeque at Chu-Chu and Ray's house in CT - made even better by the fact that their house has a pool! I was worried about how the boys would do, since they haven't started swim class yet, but after an initial hesitation on both their parts, they did totally fine. They each had a floatie to hang onto, and they were kicking their way around the pool, not the least bit nervous. It was awesome, and has me even more optimistic about how well they'll do when they start swimming lessons next week. They're only signed up for 4 lessons, but I predict that they'll both be swimming solo by lesson # 2. Let's hope I'm right!
I went in the pool with them, and I was really happy that I felt ok wearing my two-piece bathing suit. I still have more weight to lose, and more toning to do, but I didn't feel like I was too out of shape to wear a bikini, which was a nice feeling. I'm now down to 146, and since 140 is my short-term goal, and 136 is my ultimate goal, I think I'm doing great!
It hasn't come easy, though. I am at the gym 6 days a week, and running, swimming, biking, lifting weights every chance I get. I don't feel like it's a burden, though, because I truly enjoy it, and I know I'm incredibly lucky that I feel that way, because it is hard work!
I had another fabulous bike ride Monday morning. I'm always amazed at how easy it feels for me to get back to biking after a long layoff. I'm already averaging close to an 18mph pace every time I ride, and easily riding 25 miles. I love going out early in the morning, when the roads are still quiet. Biking will never be my favorite sport, but I'm enjoying it more this year than I have in previous years.
Running is going great, too, but the warmer temperatures are definitely slowing me down a bit. Still doing well, though, and really looking forward to my race on the 12th! I also made an appointment with the orthopedist to get my shin checked out. It's not bothering me a lot, but it's enough of an issue that I think I need to get in for some PT, especially if I want to have any chance of running a marathon this fall.
My plan is to run Hartford. With my goal to qualify for Boston at some time during the next few years, I've got to start running flatter marathons. Newport was lovely, and a great first marathon, but way too hilly, and I'd never get a BQ on that course. Hartford, on the other hand, looks relatively flat, and since I ran the half a few years ago, I know part of the course, which is always nice.
It'll all depend on how the shin fares, though, so we'll see what happens next week. Fingers crossed!!!!
Carmine is doing fabulously, as always. He's still amazingly cute and smiley and getting more of a personality every day. Still working on that first tooth - it's sooooo close to getting through the gums, but still not quite there. I took out his exersaucer today, and he enjoyed bouncing around in there. He's not a fan of sitting or reclining, so the bouncy seat doesn't keep him happy for very long, but since he can stand up in the exersaucer, I think it'll be a popular spot for him.
Dante is enjoying his last two weeks of school. Friday they're bringing in a favorite stuffed animal and having a tea party with cinnamon toast. And the last day of school, which is the following Friday, they'll have ice cream. It's fun to be 4 : )
Gabe has a few more weeks of school after that, and I'm sure he'll have his own festivities to celebrate the end of the year. I personally can't believe that the school year is almost over, and summer is right around the corner. Time goes by way too fast, and our calendar is filling up with all our summer activities.
Now that we're enjoying so much outdoor time, I went and got some new outdoor toys at the dollar store, and the dollar section of Target - badminton rackets, various beach balls and kickballs, water guns, and, as Dante called them, "hoolie" hoops.
He came out with two other funny ones last week, too - I had explained to him what goosebumps were, and later that day, he told me he was cold and he had "chicken eggs." I had no idea what he was talking about, until he explained that he was talking about "those little dots on your skin," and then I realized he had meant to say goosebumps : )
And he kept telling me yesterday that he wanted cheesecakes for snack, and obviously, I kept telling him no. But then when I was in the pantry closet getting something else out, he pointed to a bag of rice cakes and told me that he really, really, really, really wanted cheesecakes. I corrected him, and told him that once he tasted a rice cake, there is no way in the world that he would ever confuse the two again.
Maybe Dante wanted a piece of cheese on his rice cake! Ya never know with that kid ;-)
