Cookies are baked and decorated; gifts are wrapped; children are so excited they are ready to explode. All systems go for the big day.
Actually, I never thought I'd be saying this, but as of right now, Gabe is far calmer about all this Christmas insanity than Dante is. I'm sure that can mostly be attributed to the fact that Gabe is almost 7, whereas Dante is almost 5. And I definitely remember Gabe being as wacky at 5 as Dante is being right now.
It's hard, because I know he's just so excited he doesn't know what to do with himself, but the problem is that it's manifesting itself in him literally running around the house in circles, and jumping around, and yelling, and just generally acting like a crazy person. And no, I'm not exaggerating.
Things will get going tomorrow, with our Christmas Eve celebration with the Theriault side of the family, so at least we won't be in waiting mode anymore. There will be plenty of excitement, for sure, but it's the waiting that makes them truly crazy, and that part will thankfully be over.
And I'm looking forward to getting things moving, too, becuase I've been waking up at 5am every morning, with my mind racing with all the things I need to get done. After Saturday, the to-do list will be significantly smaller, and won't grow again untli Dante's birthday party on January 9th, so hopefully I can rest a little easier for a few weeks.
I do love Christmas, though, and can't wait to see the boys open their presents. It's been nutty and crazy and chaotic, but there is nothing in the world like sharing the holidays with your kids. And of course this Christmas is extra special since it's Carmine's first!
Last night before they went up to bed, we turned off all the lights except for the Christmas tree, and sat on the living room floor and listened to the music box snowglobe that plays "Silent Night." Definitely one of the best moments of the holiday so far.
But I'm sure that over the next few days, there will be many other moments to compete with that one. I'm looking forward to all of them!
