Dante has come out with so many great one-liners lately, I can hardly keep up. A sampling -
We went to a bouncy house place with some friends last week, and at one point Dante came running over to me to tell me that Gabe had hit him. I asked him if they had been fighting about something, and he yelled "No, he just punched me - without even asking!" I guess if Gabe had asked permission to punch Dante, it would have been alright?
Despite the fact that we've seen the movies hundreds of times, and they are clearly movies about TOYS, he continues calls it "Tour Story." He's going to be in for the shock of his life when he learns how to read.
Gabe got hooked on Mad Libs when we were in CT last week, and spent hours doing them. Dante isn't quite ready to do them on his own yet, but likes listening to the ones that Gabe writes. And he calls them "Mad LiVes."
As we were driving to Newport last week for one of our outings, completely out of the blue, Dante informed us that "It would be dangerous to skateboard on a pirate ship. You shouldn't do that." I agreed with him.
I'm working on getting both he and Gabe interested in baseball this year, and have been talking about the Red Sox a lot, trying to get them excited for the season. And as we talked about it one day, Dante explained the workings of the game to us - "You hit the ball, then you get a home run, then you run around in circles to get the ball."
When I made them pancakes one morning, Dante was going on and on about how they were extra good pancakes becuase they were "so butterish."
Earlier this week the guys were doing some work inside the house, and we were home getting ready for lunch, and one of the guys walked up the stairs past Dante, carrying a ladder. And I heard Dante say to him "You know, you should fold that up."
And today, he told me that he never wants to get a job. I asked him how he'd get money if he didn't have a job. He replied "I don't need a job. I can just find money."
Gabe doesn't have quite as many memorable lines as Dante, but he still keeps us laughing. He's been staying up late most nights - usually just reading quietly in his bed. But sometimes he'll come downstairs in need of a Band-Aid or a glass of water. And when he does come down, he always finds something to chat with us about. One nght when he came down, I was watching American Idol, and he asked what it was, and I explained it to him, and he watched one of the guys singing, then turned to me and asked "What about you, Mommy? Why don't you go on this show?"
And last night when he came down requesting a Band-Aid, he went on a very long rant about how he just couldn't go to sleep because "sleeping is so boring." And he was so clearly exasperated with us that we didn't seem to understand just how boring it is to sleep.
I've written a lot here lately about how I'm a little sad at how much less Carmine is nursing these days, and how there are some days where he only nurses once in the morning and once at night, and it feels kind of odd to go the whole day without sitting down and having that special time with him.
But the other day, I took Gabe and Dante out in the afternoon, and Carmine stayed home with Scott. I wanted to have some special Mommy time with Gabe and Dante, and we were hoping that Carmine would take a good long nap in his crib (something he hasn't been able to do a lot of lately, due to all the construction noise), but he ended up not sleeping for very long at all, and unfortunately for Scott, woke up pretty grumpy - and continued to be grumpy until I came home with the boys around 4:00.
As soon as I saw how crabby he was, I put my stuff down and went right over and nursed him, and usually when he nurses now, it's a very quick process. But this time he took his time, and we were sitting there for nearly 25 minutes, after which he pulled away, snuggled up with me, smiled and giggled, and just generally acted like all was right with the world.
It warmed my heart to know that I can still comfort him that way. One of the greatest gifts of motherhood : )
so nice to read after a long day...it soothes my soul and makes me happy and content...so glad you are enjoying your boys so much !

I think when Carmine starts to talk, you're going to be one-lined to death :-)
