Now that the three-weekends-in-a-row of racing is over, I'm gearing up for a final long run this weekend before the half on May 1st.
I'm planning on running 12 miles on Saturday, and I'm hoping to do 8 of those miles at race pace, which, based on my recent race and training times, is going to be just over an 8-minute mile.
I haven't really followed a training plan for this race - I've done some speedier runs during the week, and some longer runs on the weekend, but I'm kind of winging it. But since I've been having some pretty amazing results at my races, I'm thinking that I can put forth out a pretty good effort for this race, even though I haven't done a lot of long runs.
My current half-marathon PR is 1:48, and I think I should be able to at least hit that time, and that I have a shot at running a minute or so faster. I'm not going to hope for anything beyond that, just because I honestly haven't put a lot of thought into preparing for this race. I've been too busy with other races!
And I'm ok with that - I've enjoyed the 5Ks and the indoor tri - they were all such fun races, and it was so great to have a race to look forward to every weekend! If I didn't have three kids, I think I'd be going broke paying race fees, because I am totally addicted to it!
I'm going to try to run with the boys again tomorrow morning. I'm curious to see if Gabe gets competitive and wants to run as far as Dante ran the other day. We'll see if he's got Mommy's competitive genes, or if he's content to just run his own race - either way is fine with me - as long as he's having fun, I'm happy : )
