Things I've learned during the first two meetings of the Compass School running club -
- Forty kids = unimaginable amounts of energy and noise.
- Parent volunteers are a godsend!
- Kids Love. To. Run.
- My kids are not the only ones who need to be told something over and over and over and over again before they finally listen and do it.
- You'd think it would be simple to have kids form a straight line. It's not.
- I knew it would be tough trying to teach 7- and 8-year-olds to pace themselves - now I know that it's nearly impossible.
- Having a plan is essential, but being able to change the plan and go with the flow is just as important.
- I'm normally a pretty quiet person, but when I need to, I can yell loud enough to make myself heard over the chatter of 40 very excited children.
- I never imagined myself leading a group of kids in a setting like this, but I am loving every minute of it.
- This is one of the most fun things I've ever done, and I fully intend to do more of it.
- There is nothing in the world like watching kids go flying down the track with a huge grin on their face.
- There is also nothing in the world like watching kids go flying down the track with a look of concentration and determination on their face.
- I may have found my calling : )
I love this!! Good for you, Michelle... it takes some special energy and creativity to handle a group of kids, especially 40, wow! Thank goodness you have some help. Keep us updated as it progresses!
