I've wanted an iPhone for a long time now, but since I had a really great deal with my prepaid, no-contract Virgin Mobile plan, it seemed like it would be kind of silly to pay more than twice as much for an iPhone. I'd look at the plans and the phones online, and as much as I wanted one, it seemed so difficult to justify the expense.
So instead I asked Scott to get me one for my birthday. That way he could be the one to justify the expense : )
I didn't think he was going to get me one, though. Mostly because he told me he wasn't going to. One of the things I love about him is that he doesn't mince words, and tells it like it is. Lucky for me, he also likes to surprise me, so he isn't above lying if it's for a good cause : )
So last Saturday night, after we put the boys to bed, I came downstairs and heard a strange ringing noise from the corner of the kitchen. I knew it was a phone, but it wasn't my normal phone ring, and it wasn't Scott's, either.
I hunted around, trying to figure out where it was coming from, and then opened one of the cabinet doors, and saw a light coming from inside a measuring cup, and tipped it over to find my early birthday present : )
I would have been surprised either way, but getting it two weeks before my birthday definitely made it that much more surprising. And since Gabe and Dante were with Scott when he bought it, it wouldn't have stayed under wraps for very long. Six- and eight-year-old boys are not good secret-keepers.
And now that I have the phone, I can say without a moment's hesitation that the expense is completely and totally justified. This thing is AMAZING! It is one of the most intuitive, well-designed products I've ever used in my life. You pick it up and you just instantly know how to do everything you need to do.
Not to mention the fact that it's lightning fast - and the apps. I used to get kind of annoyed by all the "there's an app for that" ads, but seriously - there's an app for everything! And I want them all!
I've been having so much fun with all the other stuff it can do, I kind of forgot it was a phone, and hadn't even bothered to set up my voice mail. The phone almost seems like an add-on to all the other stuff : )
Needless to say, I'm having some fun with my new toy.
Gabe and Dante, meanwhile, were mostly concerned with when I was going to download Angry Birds (which Carmine actually knows how to play now, by the way).
The other morning in the car, though, I felt like we were in an iPhone advertisement. We were driving to school, and Dante (for some unkown reason) was talking about Antarctica, and wondered aloud how cold it was in Antarctica.
I started to say that I wasn't really sure, but then I remembered that I could ask Siri. So I did. And less than 10 seconds later, we had our answer.
Everyone told me that once I got an iPhone, I'd wonder how I ever lived without it.
They were right.
Yay, so fun! Happy early bday to you! I finally got one just a month ago, and am loving it, too. Why did we wait so long?! :)
