My husband is on ADD medication now. He wishes his parents had thought to get him an evaluation as a child. Getting the medication as an adult has helped him focus, but I think as a child, preteen, or teen, you're more likely to be able to form the work habits and gain organizational skills that will help you as an adult.

You know your child and really are trying to do what's best for him now and in the future.

Only you can really know your children and what is best for them- I can't imagine how hard that must be! I would absolutely make the same choice if we were in that situation... you try everything else first, but sometimes, meds can really make a difference. Hope it does for him!!
